  3.             Welcome to the on-line SCO Directory !

  8. The online Directory includes more than 6,000 products from over 2,000
  9. vendors.  It is divided into seven catergories to help you narrow down 
  10. your searches:
  11.  
  12.         Hardware Peripheral Devices and Services
  13.         Enabling Technologies
  14.         General Business Applications
  15.         Accounting/Financial Applications
  16.         Industry-Specific Business Applications
  17.         Engineering/Scientific Applications
  18.         Services and Publications
  19.  
  20. You can browse through products by company name, product name, or keyword.
  21. A list of ALL possible keywords is also available from the top level menu.
  22. Within the keywords are telephone area codes and country codes, which allows
  23. you to search by region as well as by product type.
  24.  
  25. Select a category from the menu by either arrowing to the item and pressing
  26. return or entering the first letter (or number) of the category.
  27.  
  28. Upon selecting any category, you can browse through all the entries
  29. in that category or search for particular entries based upon certain 
  30. criteria. Select the method of searching.

  34. If you select All from the menu, then all the entries in that category 
  35. will be loaded.

  37. Company
  38. ~~~~~~~
  39. After selecting Company, you will be asked to enter the name of the company 
  40. to search for. Enter the name of the company (or partial name), then press
  41. return. 
  42. If you don't know the full name of the company, then you can just enter the
  43. portion that you do know, the search mechanism will do the best possible
  44. search to find the company.

  46. Product
  47. ~~~~~~~
  48. After selecting Product, you will be asked to enter the name of the product 
  49. to search for. Enter the name of the product, then press return. 
  50. If you don't know the full name of the product, then you can just enter the
  51. portion that you do know, the search mechanism will do the best possible
  52. search to find that product.

  54. Keyword
  55. ~~~~~~~
  56. You can search the category based upon a keyword. After selecting Keyword, 
  57. you will be asked to enter the keyword (or keywords). You can also enter a 
  58. telephone area code or country code here to search for products by region.
  59. To look at all the keywords available in the directory, select Keywords from
  60. the top-level menu. This file is located in /usr/directory/bin/Keys. You can
  61. print it out for a hardcopy listing of all the keywords in the directory.

  63. Browsing the entries
  64. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  65. After the search is done, you will be shown a list of entries from the
  66. Directory. To read an entry, enter the number of the entry, and press return.
  67. You will be shown a screen full of information at a time, there will be prompts
  68. at the bottom of the screen to allow you to display the rest of the information.
  69. You can browse the next entry by pressing 'n'.
  70. A list of possible commands are shown at the bottom of the screen.

  72. Saving Entries (and printing them)

  74. To save an entry after reading it, press 's' followed by the name of the file.
  75. The file will then be saved in your home directory. If you wish to print it, 
  76. then print out the saved file as you would print any file.
  77. To save more than 1 entry in a file, select a range of articles followed by the
  78. name of the file. 
  79.     e.g. s 4-45 fname  - This will save articles 4 to 45 in a 
  80.                  file named fname.

  82. Exiting

  84. Once you have finished reading all the entries, type 'q' to quit the browser.
  85. To leave a category and go to the top level category, select Top.

  87. To exit the Directory, select Logout.
